A Video Tribute to Detroit’s Olympia Stadium

Olympia Stadium was the pride of the Detroit hockey scene from 1927 through 1980.  It was the Detroit Red Wings first permanent home in Detroit — and served as the Motor City’s premier indoor entertainment venue.

In addition to housing the Red Wings, The Old Red Barn hosted special events from Elvis Presley and The Beatles concerts to Joe Louis and Thomas Hearns boxing matches.  This video tribute will bring back wonderful memories for those who were fortunate enough to sit in the stands at Olympia.

I remember Olympia very well and have wonderful memories of it. To this day I do understand why it had to be replaced, especially since it underwent a major renovation just prior to its demolition. And yes, I’m still fighting the Civil War, and trying to save Tiger Stadium.
