It’s hard to believe, but April 12, 2009 will mark the 10th anniversary of the final Opening Day for the Detroit Tigers at Tiger Stadium.
The Corner played host to every home opener in Detroit from 1896 through 1999. All in all, 104 Opening Days were played at the site.
Recently, I have been noticing young kids visiting Detroit Athletic Co. who don’t remember Tiger Stadium at all. I guess it doesn’t take very long for that type of thing to happen. All the more reason to preserve what’s left of Tiger Stadium and Detroit’s rich baseball history.
