Red Wings Parade Brings Much Needed Celebration to Detroit

Downtown Detroit will buzz today from morning ’til night as the Detroit Red Wings parade marches down Woodward Avenue to Hart Plaza.

Over 1 million people are expected to turn out for the celebration of the Wings’ 2007-08 Stanley Cup championship — a number greater than the entire population of the Motor City.

There is no doubt that metro-Detroiters need something to celebrate.  Motown has been in a near-depression for the past few years and most of the news we read has been negative.  I hope today’s festivities help to restore some hope in people and help them to forget some of their problems — if only for a day.

Go ahead.  Skip work or school today.  These moments are few and far between.  And you deserve it.
