August 17, 1980 at Tiger Stadium: In ceremonies between games of a Sunday doubleheader, Al Kaline becomes the first Tiger to have his uniform number officially retired.

August 18, 1907 at Bennett Park: A turnout of 9,635 sees the Tigers and New York Highlanders play the first Sunday game at Michigan and Trumbull.

August 18, 1977 at Tiger Stadium: Tigers first baseman Jason Thompson clears the roof in right with a blast off Oakland’s Jim “Catfish” Hunter.

August 20, 1964 at Tiger Stadium: A game with California draws 2,173, the smallest night crowd in club history.

August 22, 1968 at Tiger Stadium: Detroit second baseman Dick McAuliffe, enraged by a brushback pitch, gets into a brawl with Tommy John and severely injures the Chicago pitcher’s shoulder. McAuliffe is suspended for five games and fined $250.

August 23, 1964 at Tiger Stadium: Minnesota’s Don Mincher homers over the right-field roof against Fred Gladding.
