TigerFest 2009 @ Comerica Park Saturday January 24

This Saturday, the die-hard Detroit Tigers fans will start to trickle in to pay us a visit.  They’ll be decked out in Tigers gear from head to toe — as if they were on their way to Opening Day.

TigerFest is, for the most part, a two-bit event.  Many fans leave disappointed if not irritated because of the bitter cold and the lack of creativity and player access.  I hear the same complaints every year, but fans continue to attend.

I believe there is something magical about entering your team’s ballpark while the field is covered with snow and the seats are empty.  It’s baseball’s version of a backstage pass — and winter-weary Tigers fans will accept anything reminiscent of the coming Spring.

TigerFest 2009 is listed online as “Sold Out.”  But I’m sure tickets can be found on the Internet ticket sites.  The Fest is really no big deal — but if you’ve been stuck in the house for the past month trying to survive the winter, it can be a truly uplifting experience.

Detroit Athletic Co. is open on Saturday from 10am to 5pm.  If you’re heading down to TigerFest, stop by and visit.
