It’s official. After months of speculation and rumors, the Detroit Lions will select Georgia’s Matthew Stafford in the first round as the overall no. 1 pick in today’s NFL draft.
The Lions and Stafford have come to terms on a six-year deal worth up to $78 million — with $41.7 million guaranteed.
Is this a good deal for the Lions? Time will tell. But after finishing 0-16 last year, the team had little choice but to make a bold statement to its fans. So today, the Matthew Stafford era begins in Detroit.

Boy – he hasn’t even started a game yet…I wonder if he’ll be traded before the season? That would be something…

It doesn’t matter whom they pick. Until they can draft a new owner, they are still the Lions.
